Designed for sailors, adventurers and enthusiasts, an introduction to those who are new to celestial navigation, refresher for returners and for those who want to prepare for the RYA Ocean course. This course will introduce you to the fundamental concepts of celestial navigation in a series of six, three-hour sessions.<\/p>\n<p>An introductory<b> <\/b>workbook (pdf) is included to guide your practice, provide exercises and reinforce your learning.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of this course, you\u2019ll have the knowledge to begin to take your first steps towards celestial navigation.<\/p>\n<p>This course is not assessment or exam-driven. The emphasis is on understanding the process, developing good working habits and building confidence through guided practice and discussion. It is designed to prepare students for further study, including the RYA Ocean Yachtmaster Theory course.<\/p>\n<p><b>Six, three-hour sessions: <\/b>A maximum of eight in each class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Session 1 \u2013 Introduction and <\/strong><b>Key Concepts of Celestial Navigation<\/b> \u2013 Understand the principles behind using the Sun, to determine your position at sea.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Session 2 \u2013 <\/strong><b>Introduction to the Sextant &#8211; <\/b>How it works, what it measures and why.<\/p>\n<p><b>Session 3 \u2013<\/b>  <b>Meridian Passage<\/b> \u2013 Discover how to determine \u2018local noon\u2019 and use it for latitude calculation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Session 4 \u2013 Sun Sight Reductions <\/strong>\u2013 Practice converting celestial observations into meaningful navigation data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Session 5 \u2013 Plotting &#8211;
